fish oil benefits

After having studied biochemistry and natural supplements for almost a decade, I have come to the conclusion that there is no supplement more important to take on a daily basis than concentrated fish oil. Its benefits are so wide-ranging and it is so cost-effective that nobody should be without this supplement. Here are five proven fish oil benefits you should not be without:

1. Lower blood pressure. High blood pressure can cause all sorts of diseases, including kidney failure, diabetes and heart disease. Concentrated fish oil effectively lowers blood pressure by expanding blood vessels and making them more elastic.

2. Lower triglycerides. High triglycerides have been conclusively linked to heart disease. Omega 3 fatty acids lower triglycerides very effectively. This is something I have personal experience with. I dropped my level of triglycerides from 150 to below 50 and a friend of mine dropped his from over 800 to just 105 in two months. The method we both used was taking four or five doses of high concentrated fish oil per day and eliminating processed and simple carbohydrates from our diets. This involved not eating white bread, white pasta, white rice and sweet tropical fruits. We replaced them with whole grains and sour fruits.

3. Lower LDL, or "bad" cholesterol. Concentrated fish oil has been proven to decrease this type of cholesterol and to increase HDL, which is the cholesterol molecule bound to a protein and transported back to the liver for removal from the blood. Increasing your ratio of HDL to LDL can significantly reduce your risk of getting heart disease by decreasing the amount of surplus cholesterol in your bloodstream.

4. Decreasing inflammation. EPA, one of the omega-3 fats, decreases inflammation and C-reactive protein in the blood. C-Reactive protein and inflammation have been linked to increased rates of heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.

5. Fish oil improves mood. DHA, the other main omega-3 fat contained in oily fish, is one of the main structural component of the brain. It nourishes our brain cells and has been proven to alleviate depression and ADHD. It has also been implicated in preventing and treating Alzheimer's and macular degeneration.

As you can see, EPA and DHA supplements have one of the broadest mechanisms of action of any of the nutritional substances in the body. The best way to get these benefits for yourself is to find a top-quality and potent supplement which is free of contaminants. The main issue is to buy one which comes with an independent certificate of analysis which proves that the product contains what it claims that it contains and that it is free of heavy metals and other contaminants. This is especially important today, with the amount of industrial pollution and radiation entering the world's oceans.

Bonus tip: How is one to choose a fish oil wisely? There is one very unique concentrated fish oil with a far superior level of DHA.
